Wings win second in a row, locker room really starting to gel
The Carleton Tavern Wings won their second game in a row last night, downing the Diggers 5-2. It was a close game for the first half, especially after AHL call-up Mark Hamad took a selfish penalty in the offensive zone, leading to a Diggers powerplay goal.
“I didn’t think it was a trip to be honest,” said Hamad, who had scored earlier in the game. “But you never want to take a penalty 200 feet from your own net.”
The Wings battled all night and managed to add a few insurance markers late in the game to put it out of reach.
The team has also reportedly started to gel recently in the locker room.
“I can’t quite put my finger on it,” said Ross Machon. “But the last few weeks the team has really been getting along. It’s almost like a locker room cancer has been removed.”
In other news, GM Mike Godbout has missed the last few weeks.
The Wings have one final regular season game against Les Patriots before the postseason begins on the 18th. The Wings have already locked up the Presidents Trophy and anything short of a championship will be seen as a disappointment by the fans.
