Wings win again, unbeaten streak now at 9 games
The Carleton Tavern Wings kept their perfect season alive with a hard fought 4-2 win last night over the Reapers.
Tied 2-2 heading in to the final period, the Wings kept fighting and Rick Shean stepped in from the point to hammer home a slapshot to take the lead. Hartmann would add an insurance marker with a few minutes left to play.
With star goaltender Alec Casey out with a lower body injury, call-up Young James stepped in a made 31 saves, several of which were game savers.
“James was a last minute call-up after Alec was deemed unable to play and he was amazing for us,” said captain Matt Deline. “He made some incredible saves to keep the game close and a huge diving save when we were up 3-2.”
James was awarded the first star of the game for his efforts.
The Wings also got a goal from Ross Machon, which hopefully will quell any trade rumours.
“You try not to read the press and social media, but I know the rumours are out there. You just gotta block it out and go out there and play,” said Machon.
The Wings remain atop the standings with a 7-0-2 record. They take on the second place Screech Owls next week in what will surely be their toughest test of the season so far.
