The Wings are rolling.

The Carleton Tavern Wings picked up their second win of the season last night, cruising to a 7-1 victory over the Devils Rejects and improving their record to 2-1-1 on the year.

The Wings got goals from McLennan (who was awarded first star on the night) and O’Grady while Mark Hamad found the back of the net twice. Dustin Harris led the way offensively with a hat trick, continuing his impressive start to the season.

Mike Godbout also had a big night, chipping in with three assists after recently making the controversial decision to promote himself to the top line. The move came at the expense of Andrew Tweedy, who was bumped off the top line by the team’s general manager.

“It’s a tough decision,” said Godbout. “Andrew was doing a good job up there, but sometimes his tiny hands make it hard to make plays at speed. At the end of the day, the GM has to do what’s best for the team. And sometimes what’s best for the team is putting the GM on the first line.”

Tweedy, who had previously spoken about trying to make the most of his promotion, was unavailable for comment.

It wasn’t all great though as the Wings suffered a significant blow during the game as grizzled veteran Ross Machon went down with an upper-body injury. The team is currently awaiting the results of an MRI.

“Ross is obviously a big part of this team,” said rookie Josh Bednar. “He’s been around the block a few times. Hopefully it’s nothing serious.”

Despite the injury, the Wings continued to pour on the offence, eventually putting seven goals on the board and cruising to their biggest win of the young season.

Unfortunately, the Wings will have another major hole to fill over the next four weeks as star centre Dustin Harris, fresh off his three-goal performance, will once again be leaving the team to travel the mountains of Southern China in another attempt to “find himself.”

The Wings organization released a brief statement confirming that Harris will miss the next four weeks:

“We fully support Dustin in his journey,” the statement read. “Although we are still unclear what exactly he is looking for, we hope he finds it.”

At the other end of the rink, perennial Vezina candidate Alec Casey was sharp as always, turning aside 21 of 22 shots in the victory. The Wings will now look to keep the momentum going without their leading scorer while awaiting an update on Machon’s injury.

At 2-1-1, the Wings remain firmly in the playoff picture and next take on the Hat Tricks on October 18th. Plenty of tickets still available.
