Wings season begins Sunday with high expectations
The Carleton Tavern Wings will kick off the 2022-23 season this Sunday when they take on The Mooseheads, who are coming down from division 12.
“We know this will be a tough test for us right out of the gate, but we’re really looking forward to it,” said GM Mike Godbout. “We made some key signings this off season and the team has looked great in camp.”
Speaking of Godbout, he was mysteriously absent from the teams last pre-season practice last night and rumours are swirling that anything less than a championship this season could spell the end of his tenure.
It was a busy off-season for the Wings who locked up rookies Roger Needham and Mark Hamad to multi-year deals, while not qualifying disgruntled winger Mark Molnar.
Star goaltender Alec Casey is entering the second season of his 8 year deal and will once again be counted on to carry the load for the Wings this season.
Centre Mike Hartmann is entering the last season of his current contract and will be a UFA at seasons end. When asked to comment about staying with the Wings, Hartmann had great things to say about the city and the organization:
“The Wings have a special place in my heart,” he said, gushing about the way he has been treated by the organization, his teammates, fans and even the local media. “Everything about this city, I love. My wife loves it here. You guys can tell on Twitter — my uncle, my dad, my mom, my sisters, my brother, everyone loves the Wings. It has a special place in our heart and we love it here, so we’ll see what happens.
“It’s kind of a big decision here and I’m just going to try to figure out what’s best for me first and my family and go from there, but Ottawa is a special place for me and I do really, really love it here.”

Some tickets still remain up for grabs for Sundays game.
