Wings pull off big 6-2 win in first game of the season
The Carleton Tavern Wings returned to their winning ways last night, with a hard fought 6-2 win over the Moosehead Loggers.
Despite a slow start, the Wings managed 4 second half goals to skate away with a 6-2 victory.
“We struggled a bit in the first half; we clearly had some rust to shake off,” said captain Matt Deline. “But we found our legs and played some more Wings style hockey in the second.”
If it wasn’t for star goaltender Alec Casey, it might have been a different story.
“Alec was Alec, that’s all I can say,” said grizzled veteran Rick Shean. “He kept us in it at the beginning until we found our game.”
The Wings were missing some key players in Machon, Needham, Ethier and McLennan, but GM Godbout once again worked his magic with another stellar call-up. Connor “Bedard” O’Grady playing in his first game with the big club, had a huge goal just before the buzzer sounded to end the first period.
The Wings also got two goals a piece from Hartmann and Godbout, with Chris Vankekganakeen scoring the other.
“It’s nice to contribute offensively,” said Vankekganakeen. “I think maybe that time I wore Spike’s mask instead of own, I breathed in some of his offence.”
The Wings next game is September 21st at home vs The Firespinners.
