The Carleton Tavern Wings lost their first game of the season on Saturday, falling 3-2 to the Bulldogs. The dogs had several call-ups playing in the game, bringing the integrity of the win into question.

“They had maybe 2 or 3 of their actual players playing,” explained centre Mike Hartmann. “But great teams don’t make excuses, we could have played better.”

The score could have been a lot worse if not for goaltender Alec Casey, who turned aside 37 of 40 shots.

The Wings were right back at it two days later against the Dogs, looking for some revenge. The game ended in a 3-3 tie, but the Wings still remain poised to win the presidents trophy this year.

“We played better for sure, but Helal played great for them. You have to give him some credit,” said captain Matt Deline, who made his return to the lineup. “Hopefully we get another crack at them in the playoffs.”

Speaking of the playoffs, some teams around the league have been accusing the Wings of circumventing the salary cap, by have star winger Mitch Ethier on LTIR, assuming he will come back for the playoffs.

“It’s completely untrue,” said GM Godbout. “Hell we don’t even know what is going on with that guy. Is he hurt? Is he in Europe somewhere? Locked in his basement buying NFTs? No one really knows.”

The Wings now have two weeks off and won’t play again until the 24th when they take on long time rivals, the Screech Owls.
