Wings headed to the finals, Casey headed to the trade block?
The Carleton Tavern Wings are heading to the championship game this Friday, after a nail-biting final day in the playoff round robin.
Unfortunately, the happy news is being overshadowed by a goalie controversy surrounding the club. Star goaltender Alec Casey is reportedly not going to be between the pipes for the final game. Rumours are swirling that the perennial Vezina candidate is off to New York to meet with other teams vying for his services.
“I have no comment at this time about the situation with Alec. I’m focused on the game Friday night and bringing a championship back to this city,” said GM Godbout. “Of course we would love to have Alec in net, but we are more than confident in Nails.”
The Wings will meet their long-time rivals the Prancing Ponies in the championship game, which promises to be a chippy affair. The two teams combined for 88 penalty minutes in their last meeting.
“We don’t like each other, its no secret,” laughed Connor O’Grady. “We always play each other hard and tomorrow night will be exception.”
The game has already sold out in less than 24 hours the CAHL reports. Puck drop is set for just after 10pm.
