Wings head into playoffs on a winning note
The Carleton Tavern Wings are heading into the postseason on a winning streak after downing the Patriots 5-1 last night at a packed Ice House.
Alec Casey was solid as always, turning aside 34 of 35 shots for his 12th win of the season.
“I was seeing the puck well tonight. Credit to our defense for clearing out the front of the net and our forwards did a good job backchecking as well,” said Casey.
The Wings exploded for two quick goals in the second period off the sticks of Hartmann and Needham, who the Wings will need to keep their offence going in the playoffs.
GM Mike Godbout returned to the lineup and provided solid two-way play as always, while locker room tension was defused as well.
“We were glad to have Mike back in the lineup for sure,” said captain Matt Deline. “We settled the dressing room stuff as a team and we are glad to have him back.”
Mark Hamad once again had trouble staying out of the box, something the team hopes he can fix for the playoffs.
The Wings head into the playoffs as cup favourites, having won the presidents trophy, having the top goalie in the league and boasting 3 of the top 8 scorers in Hartmann, Needham and McLennan.
Playoffs get under way on Monday, April 18th and the game is already sold out.
