The Carleton Tavern Wings 2026-27 season officially kicked off last night with a home game against the upstart Capitals.

The teams exchanged goals throughout the contest, with the Capitals heading into the final five minutes with a narrow 4-3 lead off a hat-trick from veteran forward Alex Szulc.

That’s when Wings sniper Connor O’Grady (sporting his new number 75 jersey) got open at the side of the net and slid home a beauty of a shot to tie the game with 3:36 remaining. The Wings also had a goal from defenseman Mike Hartmann and two from young star Mark Hamad. Wings veteran goalie Alec Casey played his usual solid game, turning aside 24 of 28 shots.

But the night really belonged to the two new additions to the Wings lineup: Andrew “tiny hands” Tweedy and Josh “Mint” Bednar. Bednar anchored the second D pairing with grizzled veteran Chris Vankeekan and looked fantastic.

“You would never have known Josh played in such a lower league last year,” said GM Mike Godbout. “He looked every bit like a division 12 player out there.”

Andrew Tweedy drew similar praise from captain Matt Deline: “Every time I had the puck and looked for an outlet pass, Tweedy was there.”

All signs are pointing to yet another “summer of Godbout.”

The Wings hit the road for a brief two game road trip starting September 20th against the Jive Turkeys. Plenty of tickets still available.
