The Wings defense shined in their opening night game last week, defeating Spartans HC 3-2.

Alec Casey picked up right where he left off from last season, turning aside 38 of 40 shots to earn the victory. The perennial Vezina candidate looks to be in top form again, which is great news for the Wings and their fans.

The game was scoreless heading into the final frame until grizzled veteran Ross Machon slid home a rebound from his office in front of the net. A sneaky shot from the point from from rookie Pat Liotti earned the kid his first career CAHL point.

The Wings would also get goals from Needham and Hartmann to secure the victory.

“It’s a great feeling, getting a point in your first game,” said Liotti. “My parents were able to make it here in time to see the game and they were really happy for me. I’m glad to be able to share this moment with them.”

After the departures of Sloan and Sharron in the off-season, some questioned what the Wings lineup would look like heading into the season. Once again, some shrewd moves by GM Godbout have proven to be effective.

“Getting a puck moving defenseman was priority number one this off-season, and we accomplished that with the Liotti signing,” said Godbout. “Having O’Grady in the lineup more this season will certainly help fill some offensive holes as well.”

The Wings are currently still without star center Dustin Harris as he is backpacking across Asia to find himself.

The Wings next take on the Moosehead Loggers this Thursday.
