The Carleton Tavern Wings were firing on all cylinders last night as they opened the playoffs with an impressive 6-1 win over the Whalers.

The Wings got contributions from up and down the lineup with 8 different players registering a point.

“The team as a whole played great. We stuck to our game plan and took it one shift at a time,” said captain Matt Deline. “From our goalie on out, it was a very solid effort.”

Alec Casey stopped 31 of 32 shots and came within 5 minutes of earning his 4th career playoff shutout.

“I wish we could have got Alec the shutout, but unfortunately one defensive breakdown and they capitalized,” explained veteran Rick Shean.

The Wings got goals from O’Grady, Martmann, Godbout (2) and Machon (2). Mike Godbout has been heating up at just the right time, racking up 6 points over his last 3 games.

“When you’re hot you’re hot, what can I say,” said Godbout. “I’ve been trying to get on the top line all year and I think the coaches have finally seen what I can bring to the team.”

Ross Machon walked away with 1st star honours, the 5th time he has done so in his illustrious career:

“It’s not about me, it’s about the team. I signed with the Wings to win a championship, not to rack up goals.”

The Wings next take on the Bulldogs on Friday, April 5th. The game has already sold out, but the team may be releasing standing room only tickets. Stay tuned for details.
