Wings remain undefeated after hard fought tie with the Diggers

The Carleton Tavern Wings remained undefeated on the season after a tough 2-2 tie with the Diggers over the weekend.

The Wings sit atop the div 13 standings with a record of 6-0-1, the hottest start in franchise history.

“It was a really tight checking game, there wasn’t a lot of room out there,” said winger Matt Sharron who scored the game-tying goal. “It felt like I was in a 1998 Cannibal Corpse mosh pit out there at times.”

With the game tied 1-1 in the third, Sharron jumped on a giveaway by Diggers goalie Stuart Sheldrick and put it into the empty net to give the Wings a 2-1 lead.

Unfortunately, a late call-up on the other side blazed through the neutral zone, hair flying, and tied the game on a breakway.

“I got a piece of it, but just not enough and it squeezed through,” said goalie Alec Casey, who turned aside 29 of 31 shots.

The Wings have a light schedule going forward with only two more games in November, on the 15th and 25th. They are hoping this will give them time to get some players back who have been day-to-day over the past few weeks. Plenty of tickets are still available.
